Christ the King Senior Girls’ School

Summer 2018
We’ve enjoyed another busy term since Easter.  We are delighted to share some of our activities and achievements with our wider school community.
Please check out our school and class activities on our school website  www.christthekinggns.com
  • All classes took part in the Junior Achievement programme this term.  This programme teaches children how they can impact the world around them as individuals, workers and consumers.
  • 5th class participated in a Dragon’s Den experience in the beautiful surroundings of Amundi Asset Management. The titles of their inventions were Bizzy Bot, Cell Saver, Safe and Sound and Moppy Feet.
  • On the 20th May 2nd class received the sacrament of First Holy Communion.  It was a very special day, everyone looked beautiful and participated very well in the mass.
  • This term we completed our 8 week session of swimming lessons.  We will have many fantastic swimmers on holidays this year.
  • All classes completed GAA sessions with Liam from Naomh Fionbarra. They really enjoyed improving their GAA skills.
  • 6th class took part in a study skills workshop on 15th June.  They received great tips and practised skills to help them with their work in secondary school next year.
  • As part of the transfer programme, students from St. Dominics came in to chat to 6th class.
  • We held a Danceathon on Friday 1st June.  The children enjoyed dance activities in their classrooms and a disco in the hall. All classes also enjoyed creating dance inspired art.  Thank you to all who contributed to our fundraiser.  €1297 was raised for the school.
  • 2nd, 3rd and 4th class visited Glanmore foods on June 19th. We went on a tour of the factory where we got to see how our school lunches are made. It was a very interesting trip.
  • Our end of year school trip took place in Airfield Farm on June 20th.  We saw many farm animals and took part in a bug hunt. We finished the day with some fun in the playground.  It was a great day.
  • 5th class produced, directed and performed a medley of songs from The Greatest Showman. Their performance was much admired by all.
  • 2nd-6th classes had a safety talk from our community guard on Monday 21st May. We talked all about the importance of staying safe in a variety of situations.
  •  Christ the King GNS are delighted to announce that we have been awarded our fourth green flag in the theme of travel. All of the staff would like to say a huge well done and congratulations to all of the pupils (and their parents!) for all of their hard work and commitment walking to school every Wednesday.
  • 4th class took part in an art competition for the Cabra Schools Get Reading Literacy Initiative, based on the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Congratulations to the winning entries Amy, Kerry and Ava Lynn.
  • 2nd, 3rd and 4th class entered the Parish art competition to design a poster for the World Meeting of Families 2018. The winning entries were Rachel, Amy, Ruby, Tori and Ava-Lynn from 4th class, Tyra from 3rd class, and Aimee and Toni from 2nd class.
  • 6th class hosted the school's annual cake sale on the 27th June. They worked hard selling all the delicious treats baked by the students and parents of Christ the King. Thank you to all who supported our Cake Sale.
  • Our annual Sports Day took place on Tuesday 26th June. Everyone had great fun participating in the many sporting activities and races that took place.
  • The Graduation Mass for 6th Class was held in the church on Thursday 28th June at 11am. Congratulations to everyone involved.
  • On Thursday 28th June we also celebrated our annual Garden Party. This is one of the most enjoyable afternoons of the year. Everyone looked great in their summer style!
  • We wish 6th class the best of luck as they move on to secondary school in September.
  •  Our esteemed colleague Ms. Loftus will not be returning in September. She is planning to return to her beloved Mayo and we wish her the very best in the new chapter of her life. The school community will miss her very much.
  • Ms. Haughey and all the staff would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer break.  We look forward to seeing you all again on Thursday August 30th.
