Monday 11th January

Welcome back girls! We are starting our online learning today. Check here every day for your work and don't forget to take a picture of your completed work and upload it to SeeSaw. Also, please remember to rule your page, put the date in the corner and give it a heading. I'll be keeping an eye on handwriting now that everyone has their pen licences!

*Reminder: Books can be collected from school today between the hours of 13:30-14:30*

Our News: Like any other Monday, we will start with our news. Write about your Christmas holidays. What did you do? Where did you go? Did you have any nice dinners or receive any lovely presents? Tell me all about them, I'm very curious to hear! Write about ten lines.

Spellings: We are moving onto Unit 9. You can use your books from tomorrow, but for today the spellings are "window", "follow" and "borrow". Practice writing them two times, and make one sentence with each of these words in your Home Copy/hardback. Make sure everything is spelled properly.

Mental Maths: Please see the slideshow below for today's Mental Maths. I have taken a photo of it for today. Zoom in if you need to, it's very small.

Read at Home: Please see the slideshow below. Read it and answer the questions in your Home Copy/hardback. (Ireland v England)

English: Please see the slideshow below. You will see a short paragraph, but there are ten mistakes hidden in it. Find the ten mistakes and write out the paragraph correctly with no mistakes. The mistakes could be capital letters, full stops, commas or spelling mistakes. Can you find all 10?

Maths: Please see the slideshow below. You will see some Addition sums and some Subtraction sums. Figure out the answers as best you can. I will put up a video on SeeSaw later on today with the answers. Watch this video and correct the sums.
Use this link to play a Subtraction game "Splat": https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math/subtraction/fruit-splat-game/

SPHE: Write out this quote on a blank page in bubble writing/ cursive writing/ any writing you like and design it and colour it in. You can stick it up on your wall to remind you to always stay positive! Take a photo and show me on Seesaw.
"You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think."

 September
We were all very happy to come back to school in September after a long time off! The girls were very eager and excited to dive back into their work. Firstly, we learned about how to keep our hands clean, and we got lovely boxes to keep our school books in to keep them safe and clean. We started going on three toilet breaks per day to wash our hands and we socially distance along the corridor. We also sanitise every time we leave or enter a room.
We learned about lots of things such as Mé Féin in Irish, we started a new English programme called Over the Moon which we love, and we worked really hard in Maths. We also took advantage of the nice weather in September and learned how to use thermometers to measure temperatures indoors and outdoors (in our new pods of course!)
October

In October, we focused on basketball for PE while the weather still was not too cold. We learned how to play a basketball version of the game Snatch the Bacon, which we wanted to play all the time.
October continued, and we enhanced our drawing skills by doing Drawlloween every day. We love October because it means Halloween is near which means Halloween Art!
It also means dressing up on the last day before midterm break. Don't we look amazing!

November
November brought with it Science Week. We did lots of experiments every day that week, including balloon races, the mentos and Coke experiment, the skittles experiment, and lots more.  We also even got to imagine ourselves as scientists!
November is also the month of Pen Licences! Five girls a week received their pen licences, and now every girl in the class can confidently write with pen. The improvement between our handwriting in September and now is just amazing. There are some randomly chosen samples below.
December
December was a busy month. In this last month before Christmas, a lot of our time was taken up with our class play, "Santas on Strike!" Ms. Quinn was so impressed at how fast we all learned our lines. We had so much fun rehearsing on the stage in the big hall. The play can be seen on Seesaw.
We got lots of Christmas art done on canvases, and we also had two elves join our classroom for the month, Buddy and Charli. They got up to mischief and made Ms. Quinn and Michelle's classroom a mess sometimes! We learned a new poem called "The Night Before Christmas" and drew a picture for each verse of the poem. It was very long but very good!
We had a special guest at our school, and Halli McDonald was announced as our classes winner for the Guard's art competition designing a poster for the local essential service workers. Well done Halli!
We also painted our own Christmas decorations and were able to bring them home and hang them on our trees. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
