Christ the King Senior Girls School Sustainability Policy
 
 
1. Policy Statement
Our school is committed to promoting environmental sustainability and fostering a culture of responsibility, conservation, and environmental stewardship. We aim to reduce our environmental impact, use resources efficiently, and educate students, staff, and the wider school community about sustainable practices that contribute to a healthier planet.
2. Purpose
This policy seeks to:
  • Minimize the school's environmental footprint.
  • Encourage sustainable behaviors among students, staff, and visitors.
  • Integrate sustainability into teaching, learning, and school operations.
  • Support local and global efforts to address environmental challenges.
  • Create a safe, healthy, and sustainable learning environment.
3. Scope
This policy applies to:
  • All students
  • All staff and volunteers
  • Visitors and contractors
  • School facilities and operations
4. Key Objectives
4.1 Energy Conservation
The school will:
  • Reduce energy consumption through efficient use of lighting, heating, cooling, and electronic equipment.
  • Encourage turning off lights and devices when not in use.
  • Consider renewable energy solutions where feasible.
  • Monitor and review energy usage regularly.
4.2 Waste Reduction and Recycling
The school will:
  • Promote the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
  • Provide clearly labeled recycling bins throughout the campus.
  • Reduce paper use through digital communication where possible.
  • Encourage reusable water bottles, lunch containers, and stationery.
4.3 Water Conservation
The school will:
  • Promote responsible water use.
  • Regularly inspect facilities for leaks and inefficiencies.
  • Encourage students and staff to avoid unnecessary water waste.
  • Explore rainwater harvesting and water-saving technologies where practical.
4.4 Sustainable Purchasing
The school will:
  • Purchase environmentally responsible products whenever possible.
  • Prioritize locally sourced and sustainable goods.
  • Reduce single-use plastics and unnecessary packaging.
  • Consider the environmental impact of procurement decisions.
4.5 Biodiversity and School Grounds
The school will:
  • Protect and enhance biodiversity on school grounds.
  • Maintain green spaces, gardens, and habitats for local wildlife.
  • Encourage student participation in environmental projects and conservation activities.
  • Plant native species where appropriate.
4.6 Sustainable Transport
The school will:
  • Encourage walking, cycling, carpooling, and public transport.
  • Promote safe and sustainable travel to and from school.
  • Provide bicycle parking where possible.
  • Support initiatives that reduce transport-related emissions.
4.7 Education and Awareness
The school will:

Parents and Guardians
  • Support sustainability initiatives at home and within the school community.
  • Encourage environmentally responsible behaviours.
6. Monitoring and Review
The school will:
  • Review this policy annually.
  • Set measurable sustainability targets.
  • Monitor progress and report achievements to the school community.
  • Seek feedback from students, staff, and stakeholders to improve sustainability performance.
7. Commitment
Through this Sustainability Policy, our school commits to fostering environmentally responsible practices and empowering students to become informed, active citizens who contribute positively to a sustainable future.
